Rules & Regulations

01Registration & eligibility
FIDE rules and regulations apply, and all results are submitted for FIDE rating. Registration closes on 15 August 2026; late entries incur an additional LKR 1,000 and the organisers reserve the right to accept or reject them. Every player must play according to the FIDE ranking list in force at the time of the tournament — if a player's rating changes between registration and the event, the updated rating applies with no additional payment.
02Time control
Classical rounds use 90 minutes per player with a 30-second increment per move, starting from move one. The Rapid event is 10 minutes + 5 seconds and the Blitz event is 3 minutes + 2 seconds. The default time is one hour: a player who arrives at the chessboard after the default time loses the game. The chief arbiter makes the start announcement five minutes before each round begins.
03Pairings & rounds
Pairings are made using the Swiss Manager program. The decision of the Chief Arbiter is final in the event of a dispute by any means.
04Conduct & fair play
Players are not allowed to bring mobile phones or any other electronic devices into the tournament hall; any violation results in loss of the game. Officials and players must be smartly attired at all times while in the hall, and no one may enter wearing slippers or inappropriate attire.
05Dress code
The dress code for all prize winners at the prize-giving ceremony is smart casual.
06Tiebreaks
Tie-breaks will be announced at the technical meeting.
07Prizes & rating
A player may claim only one prize in each category, and prize money will not be shared. All amounts stated in the prospectus are in Sri Lankan Rupees. The main event is submitted for FIDE rating, and results are published after each round on the Play pages, provisional until confirmed by the chief arbiter.
